SHILLONG: The State Government has constituted a committee to be headed by Pankaj Jain, the Commissioner and Secretary, Planning, to work out a rehabilitation package for the splinter groups of various militant outfits which had expressed their desire to hold talks with Government.

Earlier, the Government had appointed two church leaders, Rev. Janan K Sangma, general secretary of ABDK and Rev F D Sangma, Pastor of Baptist Church, to initiate peace talks with the splinter groups of various militant outfits.

There are as many as six such splinter groups operating in Garo Hills.

An official source said on Wednesday that the committee will examine the rehabilitation package including livelihood programmes for the groups.

The two church leaders entrusted with the task of initiating talks with the splinter groups had met the Chief Minister recently to work out the modalities for the peace talks.
