SHILLONG, May 13: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), South Border Zone, has urged the state government to integrate the Bataw RBBJ road with the proposed Greenfield High-Speed Corridor to improve regional connectivity and boost economic development.
The demand was raised during a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister and PWD (Roads) Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the JSU stated that linking the existing RBBJ road in the Bataw area with the upcoming four-lane corridor would ensure smoother transportation and reduce travel time.
The proposed connectivity is expected to directly benefit several villages, including Pynurkba Bataw, Umlangsha, Lakadong, Borghat and Kwator.
The JSU noted that the move would facilitate the faster transport of agricultural produce and other goods to industrial and commercial hubs.
“The Greenfield High-Speed Corridor is a much-awaited project, but its success will depend on how effectively it is connected with existing local roads,” the union said.
Proper integration, the JSU added, would ensure that local residents, farmers, and traders derive maximum benefit from the new infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the JSU delegation has expressed satisfaction with the deputy chief minister’s response.
According to the union, Tynsong assured them that the government would examine the feasibility of providing access points connecting the RBBJ road to the corridor during the planning and alignment process.
