SHILLONG, May 13: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has reiterated the state government’s vision of transforming Shillong into the digital hub of eastern India, with major investments being pushed in the Information Technology and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) sectors.
As part of this vision, the state government has developed the Shillong Technology Park, which has emerged as a key initiative to attract technology companies and generate employment for local youth.
Officials said that the first phase of the Shillong Tech Park is fully operational and currently houses eight companies, including HDFC Bank, employing around 1,200 people directly. Other firms operating from the park include 24×7.ai, Tech Digital, Sirobilt, Magic Works, I Merit, Pursuit Software, and Shamrock AI.
The second phase of the tech park, spanning nearly 1.8 lakh square feet, is expected to be inaugurated in the coming months. The Information Technology & Communication Department of the Meghalaya government is actively working to attract further investments into the facility, officials said.
In a major push to showcase Shillong as a rising technology destination, the state government, in collaboration with NASSCOM, will host the NASSCOM Industry Leaders’ Meet 2026, Shillong, on May 14. The event will be held alongside the BPM Council meeting scheduled for May 15.
The meeting is expected to attract several top industry leaders from companies such as Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Concentrix, Infosys BPM, TaskUs, Alorica, Han Digital, and Achala Solutions.
Rajesh Nambiar, President of NASSCOM, will also attend the programme.
During the event, industry leaders will participate in a roundtable discussion chaired by the Chief Minister and later interact with heads of educational institutions from across Meghalaya. Delegates are also scheduled to visit the Shillong Tech Park at Umsawli in New Shillong.
Officials said the initiative is expected to create large-scale employment opportunities for the youth of the state and contribute significantly towards Meghalaya’s target of becoming a USD 10 billion economy by 2028. The IT and ITeS sector alone is projected to contribute nearly $1.76 billion to the state economy.
