Shillong, May 14: Meghalaya midfielder Ricky John Shabong has earned a place in the list of probables for the Indian senior men’s football team ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup, scheduled to be held in London later this month.
India head coach Khalid Jamil named a 28-member provisional squad for the four-nation tournament, which will feature India, Nigeria, Jamaica and Zimbabwe. The final 23-member squad for the tournament will be announced before the team departs for London on May 24.
The Blue Tigers are expected to gather in Bengaluru for a short preparatory camp after the conclusion of the Indian Super League 2025-26 season on May 21.
The 23-year-old Shabong, who plays as a midfielder for Punjab FC, has been a regular feature for the club since joining them in the 2023-24 season.
Over the last two ISL campaigns, he has made 45 appearances for Punjab FC.
Though Ricky is yet to make his senior international debut, he has previously represented India at the age-group level and is regarded as one of the promising footballers from Meghalaya.
