SHILLONG, May 14: Police on Wednesday seized a huge cache of 30,000 detonators and arrested two persons in East Jaintia Hills District, officials said on Thursday.
During a vehicle checking drive at 2 Kilo in Umkiang in the early hours of Wednesday, a car (AS10 A 5916) on its way to Silchar was intercepted, Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said.
“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 30,000 detonators. The detonators were concealed inside two boxes and a bag,” he said.
The two occupants of the vehicle—Kamrul Ali Laskar and Ibrahim Uddin Laskar, both residents of Cachar in Assam—were arrested, he said.
A case was lodged at the Lumshnong police station under the Explosive Substances Act. An investigation is under way to trace the source of the detonators and identify the intended recipients, the officer added.
