SHILLONG: Commuters and pedestrians passing through the road leading from Umpling to NEIGRIHMS have complained that in the last few days the place where garbage has been carelessly strewn by passers-by on the roadside is engulfed by a noxious, unbearable stink.

Those living nearby say that while rotten garbage has a putrid smell, what is emanating from the garbage dump is like rotten flesh. They have brought this to the attention of the Dorbar Shnong.

Reacting to the complaint the Dorbar Shnong Umpling, which in the past has nabbed people who live in Madanrting, Nongthymmai, Nongrim Hills etc. and are dumping garbage in Umpling and also fined them heavily, has issued a notice that henceforth any one found dumping garbage at this spot and nearby would be punished as per the law.

“We have found butchers coming to dump the blood of cows and pigs and their innards at this place and have fined them. Now we will take legal action against such polluters,” B Jyrwa, Rangbah Dong said.
