MPSC to get permanent building

 SHILLONG: The State Government has decided to construct a permanent building of the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).

Informing this here on Tuesday, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said a plot of land at Lower Lachumiere (No-47) had already been allotted for the purpose and the foundation stone of the same would be laid on August 26.

Dr Sangma said another plot number (No-41(b)) has also been sanctioned for the construction of an MPSC cell at Tura.

According to him, the detailed project reports (DPRs) of the two buildings would be completed soon and added the foundation stone of the MPSC’s Tura cell would be laid on August 22.

“The MPSC needs to have proper infrastructure at the state capital as well as at the district headquarters to improve its functioning,” Dr Sangma said.

According to an official source, the State Government has earmarked Rs 6 crore and Rs 1 crore for the construction of the MPSC building at Shillong and Tura respectively.

The MPSC is currently functioning from the Horse Shoe building in the city.

On the Nongstoin and Jowai MPSC cells, the Chief Minister said they would start functioning from respective the Deputy Commissioner’s offices shortly.
