MBRS outplay KV Borjhar to become inter-school basketball champions

SHILLONG, May 18: Miles Bronson Residential School (MBRS) emerged champions in the Under-17 Boys category of the Inter-School Basketball Championship 2026 after edging past Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Borjhar 50-45 in a thrilling final held at Don Bosco School, Sonaighuli.
The two-day championship, hosted on May 16 and 17, witnessed participation from 11 reputed schools from the Greater Guwahati region, including Don Bosco School Pan Bazar, Army Public School Narangi, NPS International School Lokhra, Royal Global School, Sarala Birla Gyanjyoti School, Gurukul Grammar School and St Francis De Sales School, among others.
Displaying remarkable teamwork, discipline and determination throughout the tournament, the MBRS side produced an impressive performance in the final to clinch the coveted title and bring laurels to the institution.The championship-winning squad comprised captain Jiwang Tayang, Kumlex Nalo, Abu Sohail, Shantanu Gogoi, Jenyboy Sadokpam, Ray Jangminlun Haokip, Musharraf Islam, Bodharajan Oinam, Ali Ansari, Subhasish Chakraborty, Nishit Mishra and Thangginlun Vaiphei.Adding further glory to MBRS’ triumph, skipper Jiwang Tayang was adjudged the “Player of the Tournament”, while Abu Sohail received the “Promising Player” award for his standout performances during the competition.
The awards were presented by Father Joby Abraham, who congratulated the players for their spirited display and sportsmanship during the tournament.
