Voting for lone M’laya RS seat on June 18

SHILLONG, May 22: The Election Commission of India on Friday announced the schedule for the biennial elections to 24 Rajya Sabha seats from ten states including the lone seat from Meghalaya.
According to the ECI, the notification will be issued on June 1 and the polling will be held on June 18 with counting of votes scheduled for the same day.
NPP’s W.R. Kharlukhi is the sitting Rajya Sabha MP.
NPP leader James P.K. Sangma is currently leading the race to succeed Kharlukhi, having secured backing from the party’s leaders in Garo Hills who want a Garo person to become the next MP.
