SHILLONG, May 29: Union Secretary for Youth Affairs, Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil, on Friday said the Ministry is working with the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to integrate National Service Scheme (NSS) activities into the academic curriculum under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Speaking at a consultation meeting at St. Anthony’s College, Dr. Govil addressed concerns regarding NSS activities clashing with academic schedules.
She stated that a new framework is being developed to ensure seamless integration within the educational system.
The meeting, organised by the NSS State Cell Meghalaya and the Regional Directorate of NSS, brought together administrators and Programme Officers to discuss the scheme’s future in the Northeast.
During the meeting, Dr. Govil urged functionaries to onboard volunteers onto the ‘My Bharat’ platform to facilitate participation in national initiatives and competitions.
She also announced the creation of an NSS Alumni Page to maintain long-term engagement with former volunteers. Regarding financial management, she stated that funding would now besent directly to NSS units to prevent delays. Dr. Govil clarified that timely and full disbursement of funds would be linked to accurate data updates and registration on the official NSS portal.
The session also focused on recognising excellence within the organisation.
Dr. Govil suggested documenting best practices and discussed the introduction of incentives, including awards and promotions, to motivate volunteers and Programme Officers.
