New Delhi, May 31: In the latest episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted a groundbreaking initiative in wildlife conservation — India’s first-ever ‘Dolphin Rescue Ambulance’.

Emphasising the importance of preserving aquatic life and encouraging the nation’s youth to connect with nature, the Prime Minister shared a heartening conservation success story from Uttar Pradesh that has sparked widespread admiration.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi urged young people to cultivate meaningful hobbies, such as joining astronomy clubs, before pivoting to an inspiring video making waves online.

The video documents a rescue operation where a stranded Ganga River dolphin was extracted from shallow waters, medically treated, and safely released back into the Rapti River.

Commenting on the incident, the Prime Minister remarked, “In a sense, a life returned home once again.”

Lauding the specialised vehicle responsible for the operation, the Prime Minister described the Dolphin Rescue Ambulance as a vital asset for countrywide biodiversity.

“Friends, this ‘Dolphin Rescue Ambulance’ is truly remarkable; it has been designed to function as a mobile hospital. It is equipped with facilities to ensure the dolphin’s safety, as well as oxygen support systems — meaning that if a dolphin is injured, gets trapped in a canal, or becomes cut off from the main river, immediate assistance can be provided,” PM Modi said.

The specialised vehicle, launched under the National Mission for Clean Ganga, functions as a mobile intensive care unit to drastically improve survival rates of distressed river dolphins.

By deploying advanced care directly to remote riverbanks, response teams can bypass the historical delays that often proved fatal for these large aquatic mammals.

The Prime Minister pointed out the broader ecological significance of the initiative, reminding listeners of the interconnectedness of our ecosystems.

“When we save the Ganga Dolphin, we are not merely saving a single species; we are preserving the biodiversity of the Ganga,” he stated.

The inclusion of this innovative rescue system in Mann Ki Baat has amplified the message of environmental responsibility, positioning the Dolphin Ambulance as a blueprint for modern wildlife preservation.

The Dolphin Rescue video offers a direct look at India’s specialised Dolphin Ambulance in action during a dramatic 13-hour rescue mission in Uttar Pradesh.
