MAWKYRWAT, June 4: An unidentified male body was found floating in the Kynshi River near Rilang village, South West Khasi Hills, on Thursday afternoon.
Local residents spotted the body at approximately 2:15 pm near the Borbasing Bridge, about 2 km from Ranikor, and immediately alerted the police.
Police personnel arrived at the scene and recovered the body to prevent it from being swept away by the strong river current. An inquest was subsequently conducted in the presence of the Rilang village headman (Rangbah Shnong) and other witnesses.
According to official sources, the deceased is estimated to be between 25 and 28 years old. He was wearing a black long-sleeve T-shirt, black shorts, and black-and-white striped Adidas slippers. A fractured skull was noted during the initial examination, though no other external injuries were visible.
The body has been moved to the Ranikor CHC morgue for further procedures.
