Pakistan govt denying rights to Imran, wife, alleges PTI

Peshawar, June 6: Pakistan government is denying legal and constitutional rights to the incarcerated former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife and depriving the couple of proper healthcare, his party unit in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has alleged. Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since August 2023 in multiple cases while his wife, Bushra Bibi, was initially under house arrest and later sent to jail in May 2024. Shafi Jan, a PTI leader and also a minister in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, also told a press conference here on Friday, Khan and his wife were also not allowed to contact any of their relatives and party members. Trump issues pardon to former Republican congressman

Washington, June 6: US President Donald Trump has issued a pardon to Stephen Buyer, a former Republican congressman from Indiana who served nearly two years in prison for making illegal stock trades based on inside information after he left office. Buyer was sentenced to 22 months in prison in 2023 for trades made while working as a consultant and lobbyist. He was ordered to forfeit more than USD 3,50,000, representing the amount of the illegal gains, and pay a USD 10,000 fine. He was released in 2025. In granting “a full, complete, and unconditional pardon,” Trump cited Buyer’s career as a judge advocate general in the Army and in the House that was “distinguished and highly productive.” The pardon was dated Thursday and released by the White House late Friday. Singapore blocks online posts attacking Indian community

Singapore, June 6: The Singapore government on Saturday ordered three social media platforms to block access to 14 posts, likely originating from China, which targeted the Indian community and “undermine” the country’s “model of multiculturalism”. The police have issued disabling directions under the Online Criminal Harms Act to block access to the posts on YouTube, Facebook and X, the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement. Seventy-five per cent of Singapore’s over six million population are of Chinese descent, 15 per cent are Malay, and between seven to nine per cent are of Indian origin. The rest are of other international origins. The direction requires the platforms to “take all reasonable steps to disable access by Singapore users to these posts”, it added. (PTI)

Norway’s Crown Princess placed on lung transplant list

Oslo, June 6: Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been placed on a lung transplant list, Norway’s Royal Court said in a statement. Mette-Marit, 52, was diagnosed in 2018 with pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive disease that damages and scars lung tissue. It can cause serious breathing problems, and there is no known cure. She will suspend her official duties and a new medical update will only be provided after the lung transplant has taken place, the statement said Friday. (AP)
