SHILLONG, June 6: The Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare met in Shillong on Friday to review child health programmes and explore measures to strengthen healthcare policies across the country.
The meeting was chaired by Union Health Minister JP Nadda, and attended by Minister of State (MoS) Anupriya Patel, along with members of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee.
The discussions during the meeting focused on improving healthcare delivery and policy interventions to enhance health outcomes for children.
As part of the visit, the committee inspected the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
The members reviewed the institute’s infrastructure and toured the pediatric ward and Outpatient Department (OPD). During their interaction with patients, the delegation expressed satisfaction with the medical services and treatment being provided at the facility.
NEIGRIHMS Director Prof. Nalin Mehta described the visit as a significant step toward strengthening child healthcare services.
He stated that the Health Ministry’s initiatives would improve pediatric care nationwide and reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to supporting these efforts as a premier tertiary healthcare provider for the Northeast.
