WOMEN ARMWRESTLERS RECEIVE FELICITATION

Nongpoh, June 6: The Social Welfare Department of Ri Bhoi on Saturday felicitated women arm wrestlers from the district for their outstanding performances at the 4th PAFI National Arm Wrestling Championship 2026 held in Gujarat from May 29 to June 2.
The programme was held at the department’s office at Mawdiangum, where athletes and coaches were honoured for contributing to Meghalaya’s impressive medal haul at the national event. A total of 104 arm wrestlers from the state, including 21 from Ri Bhoi, competed in the championship, with Meghalaya returning with 81 medals — 32 gold, 32 silver and 17 bronze.
Among those felicitated were coach and arm wrestling veteran Margaret Pathaw, who won two gold medals in the Masters 60kg category, Ibankyntiew Pamsad (gold, Junior 50kg), Victoria Nongshli (gold and silver, Senior 55kg), Anisha Kyrsian (silver, Youth 50kg), Mihsngewbha Rymbai (silver, Grand Masters 80kg), Dafica Syngkli (silver, Junior 55kg) and Da-i-Neshisha Makdoh (bronze, Sub-Junior 60kg).
District Social Welfare Officer NF Sun congratulated the athletes and presented them with tokens of appreciation, praising their dedication and achievements under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme.
Earlier in the day, the Confederation of Ri Bhoi People (CORP) also felicitated the athletes near Ri Bhoi College, recognising their achievements and contribution to bringing laurels to the district and the state.
