SHILLONG, June 7: Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh has stated that the state government is reviewing the operations of SAI Computer, the franchisee responsible for power distribution in the Mawsynram subdivision, following persistent complaints from consumers and local representatives.
Lyngdoh acknowledged that while the state government’s goal is to ensure efficient service delivery, several issues regarding billing discrepancies, frequent power shutdowns and poor service quality have emerged.
He noted that local MLAs have met him twice to formally raise these grievances on behalf of the residents.
The power minister explained that the government had intended to take a decision on the matter earlier, but the issue is currently before the High Court of Meghalaya, necessitating a cautious approach.
“We have to be careful because any decision taken by the government should not infringe upon matters already under consideration by the High Court,” he said.
However, given the severity of the problems faced by the public, Lyngdoh recently discussed the situation with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.
Following the chief minister’s directive to take appropriate action, the Power department has been instructed to explore steps to address consumer concerns while ensuring that ongoing legal proceedings are not compromised.
