GUWAHATI, June 9: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday welcomed the visiting European Union delegation in Guwahati led by EU ambassador to India, Herve Délphin.
The chief minister said the meeting with the delegation here focussed on the advantages Assam could offer in strengthening India-EU linkages under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“We had a very productive discussion with the Federation of European Business in India (FRBI) representatives accompanying the EU delegation to Assam,” Sarma stated on social media.
“FEBI represents over 250 European companies present in India spanning across more than 6,000 businesses and Assam aspires to engages with each of them to explore partnerships that can create opportunities for our youth, farmers and women entrepreneurs,” the chief minister stated.
“Assam’s talented workforce along with our customised incentives are ready to support enterprises in futuristic sectors, renewable energy and agri processing among others,” he said.
The high-level delegation of the EU was on a two-day visit to Assam during which collaboration opportunities to strengthen economic ties between Europe and the eight northeastern states of India were explored.
An official statement earlier said the collaboration was in line with the priorities set out in the joint comprehensive strategic agenda agreed between the EU and India at their summit last January.
The visit focussed on value chains across sectors where Europe and Assam and the region as a whole share strong synergy, including renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavours and fragrances, and AYUSH.
