NONGPOH, June 11: Five persons were injured, three of them seriously, after a speeding car rammed into a roadside eatery at Umdihar along National Highway-6 on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around noon when a Maruti Suzuki Swift (AS-01-GQ-2040), travelling from Shillong towards Guwahati, allegedly lost control due to overspeeding.
The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into the eatery, causing the structure to collapse.
The establishment is jointly owned by Lapilang Syngkli and Daiahun Lyngdoh.
The seriously injured victims have been identified as Wanshanbor Lyngdoh, Bambukstar Syngkli, and Neverson Sylliang, all residents of Umdihar village. Two others sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
All the injured were rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, police launched an investigation into the incident.
