A criminal complaint has been filed in a Tirupati court against actor Prakash Raj over alleged derogatory remarks concerning Hindu deities and the epic Ramayana. The complaint was submitted by BJP leader and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Trust Board member G. Bhanuprakash Reddy before the IV-Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class.
According to the complaint, Prakash Raj allegedly made controversial remarks during the Kerala Literature Festival and other public events, claiming that Lord Rama and Lakshmana travelled from North India to “invade” the South, which he reportedly equated with Lanka. Reddy said he came across a video of the actor’s statements on social media on April 17 and alleged that the remarks were derogatory, factually incorrect, inflammatory and intended to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus.
The complainant further alleged that the actor promoted the divisive Aryan-Dravidian theory, incited regional animosity and undermined India’s cultural and religious unity. The complaint cites provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to outraging religious feelings and promoting enmity between groups, and seeks legal action, including summoning and prosecuting the actor in accordance with the law.
