TURA, June 16: Dismayed over the continued neglect shown by authorities of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) over their demands, the Tura Campus Staff Welfare Association (TCSWA) began their indefinite pen-down agitation in its campus on Tuesday morning.
The TCSWA has, over the years, agitated repeatedly seeking parity in pay for the work they do, which despite orders from the Centre, still remains unfulfilled. Among other demands, TCSWA has sought review of the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) order, the review of arbitrary promotions, immediate release of gratuity, registration for EPF and the release of salary of casual employees on time.
Members of the TCSWA came together at the NEHU Tura campus in a show of strength and began their agitation over their demands.
“The agitation is due to the complete failure of NEHU authorities, both at the highest and the local level, to resolve the matter pending for decades. Our agitation is not a one-day thing and is something that is backed by the DoPT for the implementation of the recommendations. It is high time that this discrepancy ended,” TCSWA president Tangseng G. Momin said.
