SHILLONG: The discip-linary action committee of Congress is yet to take a call on the various reports of anti-party activities in the State Congress.
Former member of Lok Sabha PR Kyndiah is the Chairman of the committee.
There has been a demand from a section of Congress legislators to take action against Congress Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and others for campaigning against Vincent Pala during the last Lok Sabha polls.
The Chief Minister had also come under criticism for not campaigning for Pala and also for not dropping Dhar from the ministry for his anti-party activities.
Prior to this, during the Assembly polls, there were complaints from several Congress candidates against Pala for his alleged interference in the state polls as he had put up candidates against the official candidates of the party.
A party source said that if the disciplinary action committee had taken corrective measures when Pala had interfered with the Assembly polls, the present demand from a section of legislators to take action against those who campaigned against Pala would not have surfaced.
To a question on action against Sniawbhalang Dhar, a member of the disciplinary action committee said that the committee is awaiting necessary papers from the MPCC president DD Lapang.
“We are yet to meet to discuss various cases of anti-party activities”, the member said.
However, during the meeting held with AICC leaders in Delhi and attended by MPCC president DD Lapang and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, the AICC wanted unity among the party men and also asked the State Congress members to forget the past differences. However, the fear of a section of the legislators is that division within the Congress will lead to further infighting in the party resulting in many party candidates losing 2018 elections.
