Sikh couple shot dead in Pak gurdwara

Islamabad, June 18: A Sikh couple was shot dead after unidentified assailants opened fire in a gurdwara in Babu Mohalla Khawaja Ganj Bazaar area, in Mardan city of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police officials said; local media reported on Thursday. According to the sources, the unidentified assailant opened fire in the gurdwara, killing Jagannath (70) and his wife, who were said to be the caretakers, Pakistan’s daily The News International reported. The assailants managed to flee from the spot. The sources said that a police guard who was deployed for the security of the gurdwara was not present when the attack took place. According to sources, the CCTV cameras were installed at the gurdwara; however, the digital video recorder was not working, The News International reported. (IANS)

5 Indian teens held in Nepal on charges of kidnapping

Kathmandu, June 18: Five Indian teenagers have been arrested in Nepal for allegedly kidnapping a 15-year-old boy in Kathmandu, police said on Thursday. According to the police, the teenagers kidnapped a Nepalese boy from Chitwan district, 150 kilometres south of Kathmandu, on Monday. The boy was kept as a hostage in a hotel in Kathmandu, and the kidnappers had demanded ransom from the family, they added. Acting on a tip, the police raided the Hotel on Tuesday and arrested those involved in the kidnapping. Police said that all the arrested individuals are 18-year-old boys from Betia, Bihar. The kidnapped boy was not harmed during the rescue operation, police added. The arrested teenagers have been sent to the Chitawan District Police for further investigation and legal action, they added. (PTI)
