SHILLONG, June 18: In an explosive disclosure, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Riwar Mihngi Circle and Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) South East Central Circle have blown the lid off an alleged systematic infiltration racket.
They have asked the Sub-Divisional Officer of Pynursla Gautam Warjri to immediately halt and thoroughly investigate the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, accusing suspected Bangladeshi nationals of brazenly stealing Khasi identities and surnames.
The organisations have warned that large numbers of doubtful residents in sensitive border villages are fraudulently claiming indigenous Khasi status by adopting Khasi surnames without any clan approval or customary verification — a move they describe as a direct assault on tribal identity and Meghalaya’s demographic survival.
“These suspected Bangladeshi nationals are openly parading as Khasi people after grabbing our surnames through questionable and illegal means,” said FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle president Evanfield Khonglam and KSU South East Central Circle president W. Suting in the joint petition. “This is nothing short of cultural theft and demographic invasion.”
During recent inspections of border villages, the groups claim to have uncovered numerous cases where individuals of alleged Bangladeshi origin are using Khasi surnames to blend in and secure official documents. The leaders have raised serious national security concerns, stating that unchecked inclusion of these infiltrators during the SIR exercise could permanently alter the indigenous character of the region and create long-term security threats to Meghalaya and India.
They have accused the district administration of possible negligence and urged immediate, stringent scrutiny of all doubtful cases, warning that any delay would amount to surrendering tribal land and identity to illegal immigrants. The organisations have called for swift and ruthless verification to protect genuine Khasi citizens before the situation spirals out of control.
