Indians among 13 killed in Qatar explosion, says minister
Dubai, June 22: At least 13 people, including Indians, were killed in an explosion at the Ras Laffan Industrial City in Qatar, the Gulf country’s energy minister Saad bin Shreida Al-Kaabi said on Monday. Al-Kaabi, who is also the CEO of QatarEnergy, said 66 people were injured in the fire caused by the explosion at the Barzan local gas supply facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday evening.During a press briefing on Monday, Al-Kaabi confirmed that 13 people of Indian and Pakistani origins have died in the incident. The exact number of Indian victims was not immediately known. The Embassy of India in Doha said it is in constant touch with Qatari authorities and will render all help to the families of those who have lost their lives or have been injured.. (AP)
Pakistan police rescue French woman, her five children
Peshawar, June 22: Pakistan police on Monday rescued a French woman and her five children during a raid on a house in Khyber district in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. The 54-year-old woman and her children were rescued after police conducted a raid following credible information linked to an alleged domestic violence case, according to Khyber police. Preliminary information suggests that the French woman has been living in Pakistan since 2014 after marrying a Pakistani citizen. Police said the couple has five children, including one child with hearing and speech impairments. The woman has been allegedly subjected to prolonged domestic abuse and was not allowed to leave the house for an extended period. (PTI)
2 teen suspects in custody after school shooting in Philippines
Manila, June 22: Two young students opened fire in a high school in the central Philippines on Monday, killing three fellow students and wounding another seven, police said. The suspects, aged 14 and 15, were armed with one pistol each. They were arrested. The suspects and the victims were students of the San Jose National High School in Tacloban city, where the shooting happened, regional police chief Brig Gen Jason Capoy said. He said that the suspects, who were close friends, said in initial questioning that they were bullied in school. (AP)
Indian, B’deshi migrant workers file Singapore wage complaint
Singapore, June 22: Over 100 migrant workers, primarily from India and Bangladesh, turned up at Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower on Monday claiming unpaid wages by their employer, according to a media report. Several workers employed by KPA Engineering, an air-conditioner maintenance services company, claimed that they have not been paid for two months and the company has been shuttered, The Straits Times reported. The migrant workers met officials from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) after being identified as employees of KPA Engineering. The ministry said that it will take appropriate action against the companies if they are found guilty. (PTI)
