SHILLONG, June 23: The state government is likely to begin issuing licences for app-based bike taxi services such as Rapido within the next 10 days to two weeks, while the Transport department official have been directed to intensify enforcement on the ground and take action against those operating illegally on the roads.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said a meeting on the matter is scheduled for next week, following which licences would be granted to eligible applicants whose documents are found to be in order.
“I have instructed my officers to strengthen field enforcement and take action against those who are moving illegally on the road,” he said.
The department, according to the minister, is currently collecting information and the system has not yet been fully implemented.
This development comes amid ongoing discussions on regulating app-based bike taxi services in Meghalaya and ensuring that operators function within the legal framework laid down by the state government.
