SHILLONG, June 23: The state government is in the process of establishing a Jal Board to oversee the distribution of potable water in Shillong city.
At present, the distribution of water supply in major parts of Shillong is handled by the Shillong Municipal Board. Sources said the matter is currently under discussion and is being forwarded to different departments for vetting.
It is learnt that the Law Department has sought clarifications from the PHE Department, which has already responded to the queries. Once the Jal Board is established, the responsibility of water distribution in Shillong will shift to the new Board. The Jal Board would also initially look after potable water distribution in Tura town before expanding its footprint to other towns of the state.
