Man arrested over religious conversion

LUCKNOW, June 27: Police in Lucknow arrested a 21-year-old man for religious conversion and establishing a relationship with a woman while concealing his marital status.The arrested person has been identified as Sahil Hussain.The victim submitted a formal complaint against the accused. The complaint alleged that the accused attempted to convert her religion, engaged in a relationship while concealing the fact that he was already married, and subjected her to physical assault and verbal abuse.Taking immediate cognisance of the matter, a case was registered against Hussain.The accused had told the police that he had come to know the victim via Instagram and is seeking forgiveness for the mistake he had committed. Strong tremors felt in Delhi, J&K as quake hits Afghanistan

NEW DELHI, June 27: Strong tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR and J&K on Saturday evening as a 6.2-magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan.The tremors sparked panic among residents of the Valley, but there are no reports of loss of life or damage to property so far.According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake hit Afghanistan at 7.04 pm, with its epicentre located at a depth of 215 km.The quake hit 43 km south of Jurm in northeastern Afghanistan. Former Kolkata councillor arrested

KOLKATA, June 27: Former Kolkata councillor Tarakeswar Chakraborty was arrested on Saturday on charges of cheating, forgery, theft and outraging the modesty of a woman, police said.Chakraborty, a former TMC councillor of ward 104, was arrested around midnight after two FIRs were registered against him at the Survey Park police station.A thorough investigation was carried out on the basis of the complaints received. The accused was arrested after sufficient prima facie material emerged during the probe. He has been booked under relevant sections mentioned in the FIRs, police said. (PTI)
