Manipuri women footballers seek support for sport

Imphal, June 27: Nine Manipuri footballers who were part of India’s title-winning squad at the 6th SAFF Women’s Championship met Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday and sought greater support for the development of women’s football in the state.
The players highlighted Manipur’s significant contribution to Indian women’s football, noting that nine of the 23 members of the SAFF-winning squad hailed from the state. They also urged the government to organise annual women’s tournaments and strengthen grassroots development. (PTI)
