TURA, June 29: The GSU from Siju, along with local residents of Nokatgre, Tolegre, Nengrugittim, Siju and Dabalgre, on Monday, condemned the recent opposition to the proposed construction of the Karukkol-Siju-Dabalgre via Rongmigre to Chokpot Road by residents of Emangre, while at the same time demanding that allotment of work for the same be done immediately to enable the construction to begin.

“It has come to our attention that certain groups, specifically from Emangre village, have recently submitted representations/complaints aimed at stalling, altering, or delaying this vital project before it even begins. Furthermore, we are deeply concerned to learn that the work has not yet been allotted to any contractor. We strongly declare that the overwhelming majority of the local residents living in these transit villages are desperately waiting for this road. We view any further administrative delay caused by selective parochial interests as a direct injustice to our people,” they stated.

The union, along with the people, submitted a memorandum to the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner where they urged the concerned department to expedite the process, uphold the original approved alignment, and to completely reject the petitions submitted by the Emangre residents, citing a number of reasons including development of eco-tourism in the area.

“The GSU Siju Regional Unit and the residents of the affected transit areas stand completely united in our demand for immediate development. We respectfully request your office to expedite the allotment of work to a competent contractor immediately so that mobilization on the ground can begin without further bureaucratic delay. The original  alignment should be maintained with the PWD Department strictly overseeing the work to guarantee high-quality, eco-scientific execution,” they asserted firmly.
