Shillong, June 29: Shillong Lajong FC has reaffirmed its commitment to developing homegrown talent by extending the contracts of eight promising players from Meghalaya and the North East ahead of the upcoming Indian football season.
The club announced three-year contract extensions for forwards Phrangki Buam and Everbrightson Sana Mylliempdah, defenders Kenstar Kharshong, and midfielders Gladdy Nelcen Kharbuli and Tremiki Lamurong. Goalkeeper Siwel Rymbai, defender Kitboklang Khyriem and midfielder Abhay Gurung have each signed two-year extensions.
The renewals are part of the club’s long-term strategy to build a strong core of local players while continuing to promote footballing talent from Meghalaya and the wider North East.Shillong Lajong Managing Director Larsing LD Sawyan said seven of the eight players had progressed through the club’s academy development programme, highlighting Lajong’s continued investment in youth development.
“We are happy to extend contracts with the eight players, seven of whom have been part of the Lajong Academy Development Programme. This reflects the club’s commitment to ensuring a strong and sustained participation in the upcoming Indian Football League,” Sawyan said.
He also revealed that two members of the squad are set to join Indian Super League clubs, adding that the management has already begun making strategic signings to strengthen the team and will announce the new arrivals soon. He expressed satisfaction that both the club captain and vice-captain had chosen to extend their stay with Lajong.
The club said it remains focused on providing local footballers with opportunities to excel at the highest level and is confident the retained players will continue to play a key role in its future success.
