Complaint over shoddy road construction in WGH
TURA, June 30: The Achik Sanchongprethanda Federation (ASPF) has filed a complaint with the West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, seeking action against PWD officials and a contractor for alleged misappropriation of funds and shoddy work on the Rajabala-Selsella road. The complaint, filed under Section 173 (3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), accuses the officials and the firm of criminal breach of trust, cheating, and endangering public safety. According to the ASPF, the repair and blacktopping of the Rajabala-Balchanda-Haldibari-Selsella stretch were executed using substandard materials in violation of engineering codes. The organisation alleged that instead of a durable, multi-layered bituminous surface, the contractor applied a “thin cosmetic layer of pitch” over dirt. This superficial layer reportedly fails to adhere to the base and peels off like a “loose carpet” under minimal vehicular movement and ordinary weather conditions. The ASPF urged the police to register an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They also requested the seizure of official tender and execution records from the PWD (Roads) office to identify and prosecute all complicit individuals.
