SHILLONG, July 5: SheHub, an NGO led by founder Mansha Sharma, organised Meghalaya’s first all-women ‘DJ run’ on Saturday. Held in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS), the event aimed to raise awareness about HIV-AIDS and the importance of early testing.
Nearly 200 women gathered at the Shillong Club at 5 am to run the 4-km course, promoting wellness and health screenings. IAS officer Sonali Verma joined the event to inspire the participants.
Sharma stated that SheHub intends to foster a fitness culture and empower women to claim their space, connect, and make informed decisions regarding their health.
The event began with a warm-up session led by fitness expert Dapalei Stacy Warjri before the runners set off from the Shillong Club. A van equipped with a DJ led the pack, making it the first event of its kind in the city.
The run drew significant attention from onlookers, with participants carrying posters such as “Prevention is Always Better Than Cure” to highlight the importance of physical activity and health awareness.
Following the run, participants received medals, curated gifts, and vouchers. To translate awareness into action, a help desk was set up at the Shillong Club where volunteers provided on-site voluntary HIV testing.
