AMLAREM, July 7: Education Minister and local MLA Lahkmen Rymbui handed over the newly established Government Secondary School to the people of Jongushen Village in Amlarem Sub-Division of West Jaintia Hills on Tuesday.
Constructed under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), the school is expected to strengthen educational infrastructure in the region. With Lower Primary and Upper Primary schools already functional in the village, the new facility will allow local students to continue their secondary education closer to home, reducing the need to travel to distant institutions.
Addressing the gathering, Rymbui stated that education remains a top government priority for empowering individuals and fostering social progress. He noted that the school reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality education in rural and remote areas.
The Minister encouraged students to pursue their studies with discipline and dedication, while urging parents, teachers, and community leaders to work together to promote academic excellence and character building.
Highlighting the essential role of teachers, Rymbui called on them to continue shaping the future of young learners with professionalism and sincerity. He added that the long-term success of the institution depends on the active support and participation of the entire community.
The programme, which concluded with the formal transfer of the school to the community, was attended by the Headman, Village Education Committee members, parents, and students.
