MAWKYRWAT, July 8: Police in South West Khasi Hills have requested sniffer dogs from the state headquarters in Shillong to assist in the search for a 76-year-old woman who has been missing for four days.
Joit Kharlyngdoh, who is reportedly mentally challenged, went missing from her home in Jakrem village on July 4 at approximately 3:00 PM.
The Myntri of Jakrem, Pascal Wahlang, stated on Wednesday that local volunteers have conducted extensive searches across forests, streams, and ponds throughout the area, but have so far been unable to locate her.
While the search has been led by the community to this point, police have now moved to provide technical support. Official sources confirmed that the district police wrote to the Shillong headquarters on Wednesday requesting sniffer dogs. Police have also offered the use of drones to survey the terrain. The sniffer dog unit is expected to arrive in Mawkyrwat on Thursday to join the ongoing search operation.
