Kansas City, July 9: England midfielder Jordan Henderson has rejoined the team’s World Cup training base after undergoing surgery on his left wrist following a freak injury sustained while celebrating England’s dramatic Round of 16 victory over Mexico.
The 36-year-old suffered the injury while climbing over an advertising board after England’s 3-2 win at the Azteca Stadium and was later ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. Henderson underwent surgery at the Kansas City Orthopaedic Institute before returning to the squad.“Surgery done! Now let’s get ready for the big one Saturday,” Henderson posted on social media.Despite being sidelined, teammate Morgan Rogers said Henderson would continue to support the squad off the pitch. “He’ll be there in one way or another. He always puts the team first and tries to help us in the best way possible,” Rogers said. Meanwhile, Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Reece James missed Wednesday’s training session as they followed individual recovery programmes ahead of England’s quarterfinal clash against Norway. James has not featured since suffering a hamstring injury during the group stage, while defender Jarell Quansah is suspended.Henderson made one appearance at this year’s World Cup, coming off the bench against Panama, and became the first England player to feature in four different World Cup tournaments.
