Negligence of doctors, staff at Nongstoin CH alleged

NONGSTOIN: An FIR has been lodged by the family members of one Rissency Syiem of New Nongstoin village against the medical staff of Nongstoin Civil Hospital for gross negligence resulting in the death of a fetus inside the expectant mother’s womb.

Parents of Rissency Syiem informed that on July 13 she was supposed to deliver the baby at Nongstoin Civil Hospital Nongstoin but the doctor in charge referred the case to Shillong at the eleventh hour.

Request for the hospital ambulance was rejected by the doctor in charge with the argument that there was no ambulance and no driver.

Dismayed that a district hospital did not have an ambulance as was claimed by the doctor in charge, the family members arranged for a private ambulance to transfer the patient from Nongstoin to Shillong.

The family then requested for a nurse or any medical practitioner to accompany the patient to Shillong but the doctor in charge returned them empty handed.

After the patient was admitted at Woodland Hospital, Shillong, the delivery was conducted but the baby was born dead.

Rissency’s parents alleged that the doctor and staff of Nongstoin Civil Hospital were found negligent leading to the death of the baby, and lodged an FIR at Nongstoin PS seeking action against the medical staff.
