SHILLONG, July 14: The Meghalaya government will spend around Rs 600 crore hosting the National Games next year.
Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said on Tuesday that the National Games Committee has estimated the cost at around Rs 600 crore.
Proposals have been sent to the Union Government seeking funds.
Infrastructure work is on despite monsoon concerns. “However, the work is going on and we are confident that all the infrastructure would be ready by December or January before the Games,” he said.
The state aims to host the 39th National Games in March next year, with other North East states co-hosting some disciplines.
On athlete exposure abroad, Shylla said provisions exist for associations to send athletes if they desire. It is optional. Such programmes play an important role in training and competing with national-level athletes.
