SHILLONG, July 18: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday inaugurated the CM Connect Centre at Sohiong C&RD Block and laid foundation stones for multiple development projects totalling over Rs 146 crore.
The programme, held at Mawtap Pyllun Ground, was attended by Community and Rural Development Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Sohiong MLA Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah and district officials.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister stated that eight completed projects worth Rs 5.48 crore were dedicated to the public, while foundation stones were laid for nine new initiatives valued at Rs 140.74 crore.
The inaugurated projects include a Block Resource Centre, a plastic waste management unit, an Agricab facility for post-harvest storage, and collective marketing centres at Nongur and Jamynthlen. Additionally, libraries and digital infrastructure were provided for 13 villages.
The new projects for which foundation stones were laid include tourism infrastructure at Kynroh Viewpoint, Sohiong Viewpoint, Nongkasen Tree House and Lum Diengiei. Other major works include rural road projects, the augmentation of the Greater Sohiong Water Supply Scheme, a flow irrigation project and a futsal court.
During the CM Connect session, Sangma described the initiative as a reflection of the government’s commitment to responsive governance.
Residents raised concerns regarding soil erosion, pending solar mission applications, football infrastructure, and mobile connectivity.
The chief minister and departmental officials assured the public that these issues would be addressed.
As part of the event, cheques were distributed to village organisations and sanction orders were handed over to several self-help groups.
