SHILLONG, July 21: The Sub-Divisional authorities have announced a revised road closure and diversion schedule for the Laitlyngkot-Lyngkyrdem stretch (Kms 24.00 to 37.00), effective from July 22.
Laitlyngkot, Pynursla, and Lyngkyrdem are key transit points along the highway that connects Shillong to the Dawki international border. This specific section is currently undergoing major expansion and construction as part of the Shillong-Dawki road improvement project.
Traffic will be redirected through the diversion road via Laitlyngkot – Iew Mawiong – Umthli – Nongthymmai – Laitkynsew NH Point. Under the new regulations, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) only are permitted to use this route during the day. A total night closure for all vehicles will be enforced from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Movement of Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HMVs) on the diversion road is restricted. However, vehicles carrying essential commodities may be allowed passage subject to prior permission from the administration.
The restrictions come in response to the ongoing monsoon season, which has increased the risk of landslides, rock falls, and road instability. Authorities have strongly advised commuters to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel during heavy rainfall or at night.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire services, and police, will be permitted during closure periods subject to on-site safety assessments.
