SHILLONG, July 23: In what may be termed laurel for the state, Meghalaya’s premium pineapples are now available on Swiggy Instamart in Bengaluru, marking a significant step in connecting local farmers with national urban markets, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced on Thursday.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated that the initiative allows consumers in Bengaluru to order fresh “Meghalaya Pineapple” directly through the online grocery platform. The fruits are sourced from the Jirang Organic Farmer Producer Company and are packed to preserve quality during transit.
The initiative aims to ensure better returns for farmers while strengthening the market presence of the state’s agricultural produce. Government officials said the partnership bridges the gap between rural producers and urban consumers, enhancing the brand value of Meghalaya’s produce.
The launch on Swiggy follows the success of the 4th Meghalaya Pineapple Festival at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, where approximately 30 metric tonnes of pineapples were sold in three days.
To further expand market access, the state government has also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Flipkart and NCDEX e-Markets Ltd to improve the distribution and marketing of the fruit.
