Anuparna Roy returns to Venice Festival with Lovers In The Blue Night

A year after she became the first Indian filmmaker to win the Best Director Award in the Orizzonti section at the Venice International Film Festival, Anuparna Roy is returning to the cinema gala with the selection of her new film Lovers In The Blue Light. Like her debut film Songs of Forgotten Trees, Roy’s second feature will also compete in the Orizzonti segment. The filmmaker has once again set the story in Mumbai and around migrant experiences. Orizzonti Competition is the second most important competition segment at the festival after Spotlight. The competition titles were announced on Thursday by artistic director Alberto Barbera and Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, president of the Biennale di Venezia, at a press conference in Venice. (PTI)

Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze starrer Point Break set for big-screen return

Hollywood stars Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze are set to make a return to the big screen, celebrating the 35th anniversary of their 1991 action-thriller Point Break. As per Variety, a new 4K restoration of Point Breaz will be released by Resurgence Media Group, Saga Arts and Fathom Entertainment. It will hit theatres on August 16 and 19. Surfer Matt Archbold will present an exclusive introduction ahead of the film. Released in 1991, Point Break follows the story of ‘a gang of bank robbers who call themselves the Ex-Presidents and commit their crimes while wearing masks of Reagan, Carter, Nixon and Johnson. Tickets for the 35th anniversary special release of Point Break are available now online and at participating theatre box offices. (ANI)

Batwara 1947 gets CBFC nod without cuts

Actor Sunny Deol’s upcoming historical film Batwara 1947, has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) without any cuts, according to sources. With the censor certification, the Rajkumar Santoshi directorial is now set for its scheduled theatrical release on August 14, 2026. Based on acclaimed playwright Asghar Wajahat’s play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, also depicting the aftermath of the post-Partition riots and the deep emotional turmoil that engulfed the Indian subcontinent during the division. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film is backed by Aamir Khan Productions. The film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026. (ANI)
