SHILLONG, July 27: The state Cabinet has approved the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, offering a Rs 25,000 incentive and a registration fee waiver for EV buyers.
Cabinet Minister Marcuise Marak announced on Monday that anyone purchasing an electric vehicle can register it free of charge in addition to the Rs 25000 incentive. Buyers who present a vehicle scrapping certificate—under the state’s scrapping policy rolled out last year—will receive additional incentives, the details of which will be finalised later.
Addressing the current shortage of EV infrastructure, Marak noted that charging points can be set up flexibly and that the government has already identified several locations for new charging stations. Plans are also underway to establish a dedicated vehicle scrapping facility in the state.
In other decisions, the Cabinet approved Rs 22.37 crore in land compensation to acquire a 6.5 km stretch for the Mawkhanu Sub Station transmission line. Furthermore, the New Shillong Township Development Agency has been renamed the New Shillong Development Authority, and the term for the incumbent Chief Technical Adviser (Generation) in the Power Department has been extended.
