SHILLONG, July 27: The East Khasi Hills police on Monday launched ‘Operation Free Flow,’ a dedicated traffic enforcement initiative aimed at curbing illegal and haphazard parking to ease congestion in the city.
Launched by Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, the operation focuses on removing vehicles from No Parking zones and other unauthorised locations identified as major contributors to traffic bottlenecks in the state capital.
To strengthen enforcement, newly procured wheel clamps were distributed to the recently formed Shillong Traffic Enforcement Team (STET), which is tasked with penalising violators.
Addressing personnel, Syiem called for fair and professional enforcement during the drive.He described the initiative as citizen-centric, intended to improve mobility and ensure public convenience through the effective implementation of traffic regulations.
During the programme, the SP also presented appreciation letters to officers-in-charge of various traffic branches and Gazetted Officers for their performance during the earlier ‘Operation Safer Shillong.’
The event, attended by senior traffic and district police officials, concluded with the flagging off of the STET, marking the formal commencement of the drive across Shillong.
