Dhaka, July 27: Bangladesh ODI captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has expressed optimism over India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh later this year, saying the hosts are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to take on one of the world’s strongest cricket teams if the series receives the green light.
India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh last year, but the white-ball series was postponed due to political unrest in the country.
The tour is now expected to take place in September, although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are yet to make an official announcement.
Speaking about the prospective series, Miraz said Bangladesh were excited by the prospect of hosting their neighbours after a lengthy gap.
“We are very excited about the series. If India come, it will be a great occasion for our country because it has been a long time since we played against them. India are a very strong team and we know it will be a tough challenge. We want to make the most of our home conditions and are looking forward to the contest,” Miraz said.
The all-rounder also reflected on Bangladesh’s memorable victory over India during the ODI series in 2022, when he and veteran Mahmudullah stitched together a remarkable partnership after the hosts had slumped to six wickets down.
Recalling the dramatic comeback, Miraz described it as one of the defining moments of his career. (Agencies)
