Agartala: Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was sworn in as Governor of Tripura on Monday as additional charge in a simple ceremony at Raj Bhawan.
He is the second Governor who took oath after new government assumed office at the Centre last month.
Chief Justice, High Court of Tripura Deepak Gupta administered him oath.
Mr Acharya earlier on July 19 had taken oath as Governor of Nagaland.
On June 30 last, Mizoram Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman had sworn in as Governor, as an additional charge of Tripura but within days, he resigned after getting transferred to Nagaland from Mizoram, replacing Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal.
The 87-year-old Beniwal, whose tenure ends in November and who had a running battle with the Modi government over the appointment of Lokayukta and some legislation, will take over from Vakkom Purushothaman.
On July 12, Mr Purushothaman resigned from the post of Governor as soon as he was transferred and since then, Tripura does not have any Governor.
However, Mr Acharya was given a rousing welcome upon his arrival in Agartala yesterday.
Former national secretary of BJP was recently appointed as the Governor of Nagaland with additional charge of Tripura.
Though vacancies in other Northeastern states have been filled, the NDA government at the Centre remained undecided over the appointment of a permanent Governor in Tripura.
Meanwhile, prior to the oath taking ceremony that occured in hall, the Governor has been conferred the Guard of Honour. (UNI)
