SHILLONG: A celebrity contest has turned into a nightmare for a female participant who was allegedly duped by the organizers of the ‘fake show’.

A woman lodged a complaint at Lumdiengjri police station that on July 12 at around 8 am, she participated in a celebrity contest telecast by Cinema TV.

On July 13, she received a call where the caller identified himself as Dharmendra Kumar informing her that she had won the celebrity contest and a Tata Motor vehicle worth Rs. 12,60,000. She was, however, instructed to deposit Rs. 49,400 to claim the prize.

The complainant partly deposited the amount in different accounts as directed but is yet to receive the reward.
