SHILLONG: Rongara-Siju legislator Rophul S Marak has accused former Congress legislator Francis Pondit R. Sangma of hatching a conspiracy against him to tarnish his image.

“Sangma, who unsuccessfully contested from 58 Rongara-Siju, had asked his close aide to distribute the forms for SRWP and other schemes with my name imprinted on them and each form carrying the amount of not less than Rs 1,50,000,” Marak alleged in a statement issued here on Monday.

He also clarified that he did not file FIR against seven people who were allegedly locked up after they had gone to submit their forms.

“I filed an FIR only against the close aide of Sangma for using abusive words and spreading wrong information about the SRWP and other schemes. The remaining six are the witnesses to his statements when he was called for interrogation to the police station,” Rongara-Siju legislator said.

“During the interrogation, the accused confessed that Sangma has asked him to distribute the forms for SRWP and other schemes with my name imprinted on it,” Marak said.

“After giving his statements he was allowed to go home. The statement of locking him in police station for a night is baseless. Everyday my opponent sends 20 to 30 people for MLA schemes with the above mentioned forms to mentally harass and put pressure on me,” he said adding that he had informed people of his area that it is impossible for him to allocate the amount to each and every individual as the schemes are meant for all round development and not for individual benefit.

He said that the details of the implementation of MLA schemes for the year 2013-14 was also placed in the notice board of the concerned block development offices and no scheme was left unutilised.

Marak said that it is really sad that the former Congress legislator has misled the people saying that the schemes are still lying with the concerned block development offices and the MLA is denying the people the schemes.

“The former legislator (Sangma) would also tell my people that I should resign as MLA if I can’t fulfil the demands,” the Rongara-Siju legislator said.

These are only the ploy of my opponents to tarnish my image.
