Cong concerned ahead of Assembly session

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) is taking all possible measures to ensure that there is no unexpected drama in the upcoming Assembly session which is scheduled to start from September 9.
It is learnt that the MPCC has issue directions to all the legislators to attend the week-long session.
Confirming this on Friday, MPCC president Friday Lyngdoh said, “We have directed our party legislators to attend the entire session.”
According to Lyngdoh, the party will also be issuing a whip to the legislators to vote in support of the government whenever a Government bill is required to be passed.
The MPCC move assumes significance since there are indications that the Opposition NCP might call for a no-confidence motion against the Dr Mukul-led MUA Government in the wake of the deteriorating law and order situation in Garo Hills.
There is an underlying fear among the MPCC members that if majority of the Congress legislators support the no-confidence motion then the MUA Government could face a possible political crisis.
Meanwhile, the MPCC president also informed that the leadership issue in the State had been fully resolved after former Chief Minister DD Lapang and 12 other legislators who had revolted against the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma had given a written assurance that they would continue to support the leadership of Dr Sangma.
“Dr Sangma would convene the Congress Legislature Party meeting before the Assembly session to ensure unity among the legislators,” he added.
