XIIth State level Wushu C’ship begins

SHILLONG: The XIIth Meghalaya State Level Wushu Championship  got underway here on Friday with FM Dopth, Director Sports & Youth Affairs Gov’t of Meghalaya inaugurating the championship at the Indoor Sports Hall JN Sports Complex Polo Ground, Shillong.
Dopth, appreciating the efforts of Meghalaya Wushu Association in promoting Wushu discipline in the State, urged the association to further popularise the well accepted discipline.
Guest of Honour, Francis Marwein, Deputy Director Sports Authority of India – Sports Training Centre,  Shillong, informed the athletes that the idea of introducing Wushu in SAI STC Shillong will be taken up as soon as the Centre is shifted to NEHU campus.
Marwein requested the sports administrator of Wushu in Meghalaya to scale for a greater height by introducing this popular martial art in all the districts and villages in Meghalaya.
Donny Ranee President MWA while welcoming all to the championship, informed that Wushu athletes from the state had achieved the first runners-up position with 5 gold medals in the first Sanshou Wushu Cup National, 2013.
LP Warjri, Press & Information Secretary MWA underlined the need to spread the importance of Wushu and other martial arts as self defense techniques.
Altogether there are about hundred and sixty nine athletes competing from four districts in this chmpionship.
