SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Secretary P.B.O. Warjri and Commissioner of Divisions for Garo Hills, P.W. Ingty, have asked West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi and outgoing East Garo Hills DC Vijay Mantri to ensure that their differences over the issue of anomalies in the construction of toilets under the Total Sanitation Campaign scheme does not spill over to the public domain.

After an alleged scam in the implementation of the scheme was reported, Bakshi slammed Mantri for leaking a ‘fabricated report’ to the media on the implementation of the scheme.

Not only this, Bakshi has also leveled a series of allegations against Mantri, even going to the extent of claiming that the latter has links with militants.

However, Mantri has been maintaining that he was undergoing training in Mumbai and had no knowledge of who leaked the report.

It was during the tenure of Bakshi as Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills that the scheme was taken up for implementation.

However, the irony is that while Mantri has been removed as East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the Government has decided not to take any action against Bakshi, who according to official sources, will continue to remain as the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills.

A senior government official said on Friday that it was for the first time that any bureaucrat was airing his views and making serious allegations in the public against his colleague.

Both Warjri and Ingty, who is also the Principal Secretary in charge of PHE, spoke to both the officials over phone and asked them to maintain decorum and dignity, the official informed.
